Community Grants Programme: Round one now open

Back

Round One of the Community Grants Programme opened on 3 May 2022.  Round One will assist in the funding of activities, programs, or services that are to be delivered between 1 July 2022 and 31 December 2022.

Councillor Sonia Bennetto highlighted that the Community Grants Programme provides valuable financial support to local community groups in their preparations for events, as well as the delivery of new and diverse projects in the Charters Towers Region.

“Council's Community Grants serve as an integral source of funding for many community organisations, providing seed funding to support applicants in their efforts to become self-sufficient.  The Community Grants Programme assists in funding the delivery of much needed equipment and facilities for local groups, for the benefit of the wider community."

“The Community Grants can also help in the reduction of costs associated with planning and running of events or programs for the community.

“Community groups have the opportunity to apply for monetary or in-kind support, to assist and encourage new and diverse events, projects or services to be developed and delivered in the Region,” said Cr Bennetto.

The last round of recipients included parkrun, who received funding to help facilitate this very successful community event.  With over 60 people in attendance every Saturday morning at the Charters Towers Airport, parkrun provides a valuable opportunity for physical activity and social connection for our community.

“It’s wonderful to see so many locals and visitors to the Region participating in parkrun.  Thanks to the assistance of grant funding, organisers were able to purchase first aid equipment - including a defibrillator machine and snake bite kit - for the safety of all participants,” Cr Bennetto said.

Sports, recreation, arts, P&Fs, and other community-related groups are encouraged to apply.

Applications that demonstrate a significant benefit to the broader community and Region, will be highly considered.

Round One closes on 27 May 2022.
