Australian music royalty to rock Charters Towers

Legendary Australian musician Ross Wilson will bring the 50th-anniversary party of one of the country’s biggest hits to Charters Towers next month.

As the frontman of iconic Aussie rock band Daddy Cool and this year is the 50th anniversary of their toe-tapping hit, Eagle Rock when it topped the music charts.

Ross also performed in the band Mondo Rock and helped write and produce hits for Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and the Skyhooks.

Ross said he had been touring the country to help celebrate the milestone and was excited to be able to add next month’s Charters Towers’ Rush Festival to the schedule.

“I’m looking forward to getting to the gold city and playing in front of a passionate crowd,” Ross said.

“It’s even more special to celebrate this personal milestone for me while also celebrating the 150th anniversary of the declaration of the gold fields at Charters Towers.

“I was able to take my 50 Years of Eagle Rock right across the country while also playing at events like the Nimbin Roots Festival and Bluesfest Byron Bay.

“I am excited that I now get to travel to Charters Towers, perform in one of Queensland’s most historically-important towns and help them celebrate their exceptional milestone.

“I plan to play all the favourites, from Eagle Rock to Come Back Again, Cool World, Come Said the Boy, State of the Heart and more.”

Ross will join artists Busby Marou, Kate Ceberano, Dragon and Russell Morris for the three-day festival.

Charters Towers Regional Council Deputy Mayor Graham Lohmann said it was exciting to see such big-name artists coming to the gold city.

“These acts are the headliners for our Rush Festival, celebrating 150 years since the declaration of the goldfields and the beginning of Charters Towers,” Cr Lohmann said.

“This event is more than just music, with a street parade, markets, short film festival, free kids entertainment, food vendors, a city-wide treasure hunt and a live broadcast of the NRL finals on Sunday.

“I encourage anyone who wants to come along and help celebrate this special milestone with us to get their tickets now.”

Rush Festival is from Friday, 30 September to Sunday, 1 October at Charters Towers.
