Watch Your Waste Mate

Charters Towers Regional Council is encouraging the community to help keep our region clean through their new campaign, themed “Watch Your Waste, Mate.”

The campaign is aimed at promoting and educating the community on responsible waste management including reducing our waste, recycling, upcycling and reporting illegal dumping or littering.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said it’s up to the community to help tackle the problem. “Every year Council spends thousands of dollars of ratepayer’s money on managing waste and cleaning up illegally dumped waste.

“As a community, there are things we can all do to reduce waste and reduce the costs associated with waste management.

“This includes what we put into our wheelie bins, what we take to the dump, recycling, upcycling and reporting illegal dumping and littering.

“The benefits of proper waste management include a cleaner and healthier environment for our community to enjoy and reduce costs to ratepayers.

“I want to encourage everyone to get involved and do their part.

“You can start this weekend by hosting a garage sale through the Garage Sale Trail to allow others to use things you don’t need any more or clean up in preparation for storm season by taking advantage of Council’s bulk rubbish removal which begins next week.

“Don’t forget that if you live in Charters Towers, you have to book to have your rubbish removed,” said the Mayor.

Over the next couple of months Council will be distributing information and promoting responsible waste management through social media, Council’s website and through radio, print and cinema advertising.
