Mayor Message - Get Ready - Mayor Liz Schmidt

Back

This year ‘Get Ready Week’ will start on Sunday, 13 October through until Saturday, 19 October. It’s a great reminder for our community to get ready in the event of a disaster.

Recent history has shown us that Queenslanders can face catastrophic bushfires one month and unprecedented flooding the next.

To help our community Get Ready, Council and the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will be providing information at various ‘Get Ready’ information days throughout the region on the following dates:
  • 19 October 2019 – Hervey Range Community Hall – 10am to 1:30pm.
  • 20 October 2019 – Greenvale Community Hall – 10am to 1:30pm.
  • 26 October 2019 – Pentland Soldiers Memorial Hall – 10am to 1:30pm.
  • 27 October 2019 – Ravenswood Markets (Imperial Hotel Area) – 8am to 11am.
  • 2 November 2019 – Elizabeth Park Charters Towers – 10am to 1:30pm.
I want to encourage the community to attend the Get Ready information days and talk with the LDMG members. There will be some great information packs to take away to share with your family and friends.

These information packs are proudly funded by Queensland Government through 2019-20 Get Ready Queensland grant funding.

Experience shows that communities that are well prepared and supported before a disaster occurs are more resilient and able to recover faster.

Now is the time to get ready. To find out more, visit getready.qld.gov.au

Please remember that during an emergency or disaster situation, residents should visit Council’s Disaster Dashboard www.getready.ctrc.qld.gov.au to access up-to-date weather warnings, emergency news, road conditions and power outage information.
