Councillor message - Bulk Rubbish Collection - Cr Bernie Robertson

Back

During October, Council will once again provide free bulk rubbish collection for the region.

This service is to provide residents with the opportunity to dispose of unwanted bulk rubbish and clean up in preparation for storm season.

Cleaning up around our homes and removing rubbish prevents unwanted material from becoming projectiles during severe storms.

Charters Towers residents will need to register to have their rubbish removed by visiting www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/bulk-rubbish-collection or phoning Council prior to Monday, 21 October 2019.

These bookings are essential as it provides the most efficient and cost-effective method of collection.  Staff can avoid driving streets that don’t need rubbish removed.

Residents within the townships will not need to register with Council and will have their rubbish collected on the following dates:
  • Hervey Range                                                            Monday, 21 October 2019
  • Sellheim, Mingela, Ravenswood and Greenvale       Tuesday, 22 October 2019
  • Balfes Creek, Homestead and Pentland                   Wednesday, 23 October 2019

As part of this service, items such as old furniture, small household items, electronic waste and unwanted yard items can be put out for collection. Items must be placed on the footpath before 7:00am on the nominated day.

Items that won’t be collected are domestic waste (food scraps), hazardous or flammable materials, gas cylinders, asbestos, tyres, green waste, fridge/freezers and air conditioners that haven’t been degassed and commercial building waste.

A full list of what will and won’t be collected is available on Council’s website or call Council for more information, 4761 5300.
