Council installs new exercise and playground equipment at Centenary Park

The installation of a new playground and exercise equipment was completed over the weekend and is now open to the community.

The new playground improvements include a cableway, gyro swing, seesaw and carousel.

The new exercise equipment is designed for all levels of fitness and includes a power bike, free runner, bench press and cross trainer.

The equipment is designed to provide a comfortable and convenient way to increase and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the $150,000 park and playground equipment project was funded through the Palaszczuk Government’s $600 million Works for Queensland (W4Q) program.

“In Charters Towers alone, these works have created or supported 314 jobs and are part of a much bigger program to create or support almost 21,000 jobs in regional Queensland by the middle of 2021,” he said.

“Across the three rounds of Works for Queensland since 2016, Charters Towers has received $8,550,000.

“I’d also like to congratulate the council on its fine work in seeing the project through – Works for Queensland only works as well as it does because of the partnership between State Government and councils.”

Mayor Liz Schmidt said the new equipment is a fantastic addition to the park.

“Having the funds available from the Queensland Government allows us to undertake these projects without placing the financial burden onto ratepayers.

“The new play and exercise equipment is a wonderful addition to Centenary Park that will be well used by the community,” said the Mayor.
