Charters Towers Regional Council has adopted its new Infrastructure Charges Resolution (No. 2) 2020 (the Charges Resolution) which serves as the final piece of the larger Town Plan project.

The Charges Resolution has been adopted in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Act 2016 and sets out the charges for new development.

The purpose of this resolution is to state the following:

  • the adopted charges for providing the trunk infrastructure for the water supply, sewerage, public parks and other community facilities, transport and stormwater infrastructure networks (local government trunk infrastructure networks) for development;
  • the charges to be levied by the local government for development;
  • the criteria for deciding a conversion application;
  • the method for working out the cost of the infrastructure that is the subject of an offset or refund.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said the Charges Resolution supports the Charters Towers Regional Town Plan and Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP).

“This new Charges Resolution replaces Council’s former Statutory Policies for charges and development and supports our new Town Plan and LGIP.

“The new Charges Resolution allows Council to levy infrastructure charges to recoup the cost of infrastructure to service new developments. It also sets out certain requirements for new development,” said the Mayor.

The Charges Resolution categorises the local government area into Charge Area 1 being Charters Towers City and Greenvale and Charge Area 2 being the balance of the Region.

Charges for Charge Area 1 are capped at approximately 25% of the total Prescribed Amounts whilst Charge Area 2 are capped at approximately 12.5% of the total Prescribed Amounts resulting in fair and reasonable charges for developments.

The Infrastructure Charges Resolution (No. 2) 2020 will commence on Monday 10 February 2020.
