ABOUT THE ROLE

The Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for assisting in the operation and maintenance of Charters Towers Regional Council’s Water Treatment Plants, Weir Pumping Station and Sewage Treatment Plants, on a rotational basis, to ensure compliance with Council’s Environmental Licences to Discharge. The position is responsible for collection, submission and recording results of water and sewage quality samples, from Charters Towers and regional townships on a rostered basis, for monitoring and control of treatment operations.

Employment Status:  Full Time Permanent

Award:                        Level 6 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017

Salary Range:            $2,530.90 Gross per fortnight.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:

| Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities |

  • Demonstrated experience within a similar role in Water and or Wastewater treatment.
  • Understanding of Water and Wastewater treatment techniques including emerging practices and technologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance, environmental and risk management systems.
  • Sound of computer and administrative skills.
  • Good organisational and teamwork skills and the ability to determine work priorities.
  • The ability to work under limited supervision, either individually or as part of a team.
  • Good verbal communication skills, including the ability to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels.

| Essential Education/Qualifications |

  • General Safety Induction Certificate (Construction Industry) “Blue/White Card”.
  • Relevant industry qualification such as Certificate III in Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation or equivalent – or ability to obtain

| Essential Licences |

  • Possession and maintenance of a current Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence.

| Physical Requirements / Position Environment |

  • This position requires the incumbent to undertake field work exposed to inclement weather.
  • The ability to carry out the physical requirements of the position – manual handling, physical labour.
  • This position may be required to work weekends and/or overtime as directed.
  • This role is required to participate in after-hours work and be part of an on-call roster as the need may arise to ensure the continuity of service to Charters Towers Regional Council’s customers.
