Charters Towers Mayor calls for North Queensland Minister

Charters Towers Regional Council Mayor Frank Beveridge has called for the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to appoint a north Queensland Minister for the Natural Resources, Mines and Energy portfolio.

The call comes as the Premier works to determine a new look cabinet following the election at the weekend.

Mayor Beveridge said there is strong support for a local appointment.

“I’ve spoken to six Mayors in the north Queensland area, which each have mining in their area, and we agree that the appointee should be from north Queensland. 

The fact that Big Rocks Weir is also the only weir which is fully funded in Queensland means it makes even more sense to have the appointed Minister in close proximity to the project.

The Mayors I have spoken with support my recommendation for Member for Townsville Scott Stewart to be the appointee.”
