The Charters Towers Regional Council adopted its 2019-2020 Annual Report at yesterday’s General Meeting of Council.

The document outlines Council’s achievements and performance for the last financial year against key objectives in the Corporate Plan, Operational Plan and Budget.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said it’s been another big year of achievements for the Council.

“We’ve been able to tick off a lot of projects that will help improve the liveability and long-term prosperity for the Charters Towers Region.

“All of these projects fall within one of our seven strategic pillars of economic development, tourism, infrastructure and sustainability, water, community, advocacy, and our organisation,” he said.

Council completed more than 20 major projects during the last financial year.

These include the Economic Development and Innovation Strategy; state government commitment on Big Rocks Weir; a Tourism Destination Management Plan; flood damage restoration work; upgrade to the Charters Towers Water Treatment Plant; park upgrades and the launch of a new website.

Mayor Beveridge said it’s been a productive 12 months for the Council.

“Our people have put in an incredible effort to continue to deliver for the Charters Towers community.

“They managed to get on with the job in the middle of a global pandemic and local government elections,” he said.
