It is shaping up as a big year for Charters Towers’ movie buffs, theatre goers and art lovers.

The 2021 events schedule for The World Theatre has been released and it’s packed with live shows, gallery exhibitions, and special events.

Councillor Graham Lohmann, who has the Arts and Culture portfolio, said there’s a lot of excitement over the live shows and performances coming back to Charters Towers for 2021; particularly following the disruptions from COVID-19 last year.

“The first live show of the year is next month’s Little Shop of Horrors performed by local theatre group Towers Players.

“The Melbourne International Comedy Roadshow, Menopause The Musical, Taste of Ireland, Rouge, Margaret Fulton The Musical, Madagascar, and Charlotte’s Web are some of the other acts lined up for this year.,” he said.

Meanwhile a variety of art exhibitions from local and national artists have been planned through until the end of the year.

“A Portrait of Australia from the National Museum of Australia is currently on display with a new exhibition due on display every four to eight weeks,” Cr Lohmann said.

“Local pottery artists Sian Rowe and Jayne Sturmfels will hold their Essence of Water exhibition in June.

“Meanwhile exhibitions like Sixteen Legs, which includes the installation of two six-foot long spiders, has been confirmed for July.”

Councillor Lohmann said movies will continue on the big screen every weekend and during the week of school holidays.

“The best way to keep up-to-date with what’s on is to visit www.worldtheatre.com.au and subscribe to The World Theatre’s newsletter.”
