Community Meetings coming to townships

Greenvale, Hervey Range, Homestead, Pentland, and Ravenswood residents will soon get to talk to Council face-to-face.

Charters Towers Regional Council will be holding their annual Community Meeting events over the seven weeks.

The first one will be at the Hervey Range Community Hall on Friday, 16 July.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said it’s an opportunity for Council to get on the ground and hear from the residents in the townships.

“The Charters Towers Region is the fourth largest local government area in Queensland and is close to the size of Tasmania,” he said.

“One of our biggest challenges is being able to get face-to-face with the residents in each corner of the Region to have a conversation with them.

“Unlike residents in Charters Towers, people in these townships can’t walk into the administration centre on their lunch break to talk with staff or myself and my fellow councillors.

“These Community Meetings are a great opportunity for councillors and senior council staff to listen to residents in our townships and we encourage as many residents as possible to come along,” Mayor Beveridge said.

Anyone attending will be required to comply with COVID-Safe measures and sign in through the Check In Qld app and follow social distancing and hygiene practices where possible.

Mayor Beveridge said registrations are important and no topic will be off the table.

“Registrations give us an idea of how many people will be attending for COVID-Safe requirements

“It also gives those attending an opportunity to put forward any questions or topics they may want to talk about.

“We can then make sure we have as much information as possible in front of us when we go along to the meeting,” Mayor Beveridge said.

• Greenvale Community Hall – Wednesday, 11 August 2021
• Homestead Community Hall – Tuesday, 24 August 2021
• Pentland Soldiers Memorial Hall – Tuesday, 24 August 2021
• Ravenswood School of Arts Hall – Tuesday, 31 August 2021
