Charters Towers residents urged to get vaccinated

Latest vaccination numbers released show the Charters Towers Region is one of the lowest vaccinated local government areas in Queensland.

Figures released 17 October 2021 show that only 56.1% of eligible residents have received their first vaccine and only 40.1% have received their second dose.

Mayor Frank Beveridge is calling on residents to get vaccinated.

“I want to urge the community to go and get their COVID vaccination. With plans to reopen the Queensland/New South Wales border, we want to ensure all residents are prepared in the event we see a rise in COVID cases.

“For us to move forward and come out of this pandemic, we need as many people as possible to get vaccinated,” said the Mayor.

The Queensland Government have released its COVID-19 Vaccine Plan which details changes to domestic and international travel to Queensland when vaccination numbers reach 70%, 80% and 90% of eligible people.

“If vaccine numbers don’t increase, the Charters Towers region may be declared as a hotspot which could potentially mean restrictions for our region.

“We have a walk-in vaccination clinic happening again next week. You don’t need an appointment. It’s for everyone 12 years and older,” said the Mayor.

The COVID-19 Vaccination clinic will be open at the Arthur Titley Centre Monday 25 October, 10am - 4:30pm; Tuesday 26 October, 8am - 3pm; Wednesday 27 October, 8am - 3pm.

No appointment necessary.

Council will continue to liaise with Queensland Health in respect to opportunities for the establishment of further Vaccination Clinics throughout the region.
