Council adopts updated designs for the KRMP Redevelopment Project
Charters Towers Regional Council recently adopted the “For Construction” designs for the Kennedy Regiment Memorial Pool (KRMP) Redevelopment Project.
Following a number of successful community engagement sessions held earlier in the year, Council carefully reviewed and incorporated the community’s feedback into the final design.
Deputy Mayor Kate Hastie advised that the revised design consisted of several key updates aimed at improving the functionality and usability of KRMP,
“These updates ensure this project meets the diverse needs of our community both now and in the future, and are listed below”, said Cr Hastie.
Key Design Updates:
1. Enhanced Shade to the 50m Pool
240m² of retractable shade is now included to the shallow end of the 50m pool, resulting in approximately 65% of the pool's total water area being shaded. This improvement will provide enhanced comfort and sun safety for swimmers, making it easier to run programs like aqua aerobics and swimming lessons throughout the year and at all times of the day.
2. Relocation of Pool Chemical Storerooms
The chemical storerooms have been moved adjacent to the existing 25m Pool Enclosure, addressing several design considerations. This relocation brings the following benefits:
- Doubling the available storage area for the 50m pool, increasing it from 40m² to 80m².
- Creating additional private open space for the Caretaker’s Residence.
- Moving the heat pump yard further away from the Caretaker’s Residence to reduce noise impact.
- Establishing a dedicated service vehicle access point to the 50m pool concourse, separate from pedestrian access.
- Increasing separation between the chemical stores and the Caretaker’s Residence for safety and convenience.
3. Consolidation of Accessible Bathroom to Community Room Space
This change has allowed us to expand the Swim Club Room from 18m² to 33m², as well as provide additional dedicated storage space for the Community Rooms.
Cr Hastie advised that in addition to the design updates, Council had also resolved to submit an application to Growing Regions Program Round 2, should the Regional Precincts and Partnerships Funding Application be unsuccessful.
“While the Growing Regions Program requires Council to provide a financial contribution, we are committed to exploring all funding opportunities to bring this project to life.
“If needed, Council’s contribution will be supported by a Queensland Treasury Loan, ensuring that we continue to progress with this vital community infrastructure.
“These updates reflect Council's commitment to ensuring that the redevelopment of the KRMP meets the expectations and needs of our community, creating a facility that will be a valuable asset for generations to come.
