Council Concludes Rush Festival but Signature Event ‘Towers Rush’ Continues

Back

Charters Towers Regional Council has made the difficult decision to conclude the Rush Festival after three years of hosting the event.

Despite Council’s dedicated efforts to establish the festival as a flagship community event, it did not receive the level of support necessary to ensure its long-term viability.

Mayor Liz Schmidt expressed her disappointment but emphasised the importance of community involvement in making events successful.

“While it’s disheartening to let go of the Rush Festival, the reality is that events like these depend heavily on local support. Without strong attendance, they simply cannot be financially viable.

“The Charters Towers Region has a full and diverse calendar of exciting events, and I encourage everyone to get involved and support local initiatives, whether they are run by Council or other community groups.

"The funds previously allocated to the Rush Festival will be redirected toward new and innovative projects that provide ongoing benefits to the region,” said Mayor Schmidt.

Importantly, Council’s signature event, Towers Rush, will continue into 2025 and beyond. Following a highly successful tenth year in 2024, which saw tremendous support from both locals and visitors, Towers Rush remains a beloved regional highlight and an event that reflects the strong community spirit of the Charters Towers Region.

Council extends its thanks to all who supported the Rush Festival over the years and looks forward to continuing its commitment to fostering community involvement through Towers Rush and other exciting initiatives in the future.
