Critical Water Alert Continues for Charters Towers Residents and Business Community

Charters Towers Local Disaster Management Group advises residents and the business community that water usage remains restricted to essential use only following an intake failure at the Weir.

Mayor Liz Schmidt, Chair Local Disaster Management Group wishes to thank the Charters Towers community for their cooperation and understanding during this time.

“We understand that this situation is unfamiliar for most, however, it must be taken seriously”, said Mayor Schmidt.

“The community’s efforts in conserving water are crucial in maintaining our town’s water supply.

“I would like to reiterate to the community that Charters Towers is still under a critical water alert.

“Water should only be used for essential activities such as showering, and drinking”, advised Mayor Schmidt.

“Council currently has a dedicated team working around the clock to address the current situation and restoration of our water infrastructure is priority.

“We as a Council are committed to keeping the community informed with regular updates as progress is made and a timeframe for repairs is known”, Mayor Schmidt added.
