ADVICE #6 - ACTION DUE TO INFRASTRUCTURE FAILURE DUE TO FLOODING

Back

Charters Towers residents and the business community are reminded that a Level 4 water restriction is now in place.

This is due to the failure of the intake at the Weir as a result of the flooding event. Because of the height of the river, Council is unable to make critical repairs needed until the river height drops considerably.

To remain at Level 4, Council’s aim is for the community to maintain a daily target usage of 6 megalitres (ML).

Usage for Monday, 10 February for Charters Towers was 3.9ML.

Level 4 Water Restrictions:

  • NO watering (Yes, this does include turning off sprinkler systems, no hand held watering, no hosing of paths, driveways and outdoor areas. Automatic irrigation systems should be turned off.)

This means the Charters Towers community must continue to remain vigilant with water usage, ensuring water is conserved where possible.
