ALERT #8 - ACTION DUE TO INFRASTRUCTURE FAILURE DUE TO FLOODING
Charters Towers residents and the business community remain on a Level 4 water restriction due to an intake failure at the Weir as a result of the recent flooding event.
Because of the height of the river, Council is unable to make critical repairs until the river height drops considerably. The drop in the river height may also require Council to return to essential water usage in the coming days.
To remain at Level 4 with the current river height, Council’s aim is for the community to maintain a daily target usage of 6 megalitres (ML).
Usage for Wednesday, 12 February for Charters Towers was 4.5ML.
Level 4 Water Restrictions:
- NO watering (Yes, this does include turning off sprinkler systems, no hand held watering, no hosing of paths, driveways and outdoor areas. Automatic irrigation systems should be turned off.)
This means the Charters Towers community must continue to remain vigilant with water usage, ensuring water is conserved where possible.
