Charters Towers Regional Council is pleased to announce the formal adoption of the 2025 - 2035 Community Strategic Plan and the 2025 – 2030 Destination Management Plan at its April General Meeting.

Both plans were developed following discussion and input received during the community engagement process, which included workshops throughout the region, surveys, and one on one meetings with interested stakeholders, as well as feedback on the initial drafts.

All contributions were used to guide and develop the plans and Council thanks all residents, businesses, and stakeholders who took the time to provide comment on these projects.

Mayor Liz Schmidt acknowledged the community’s participation and the importance of these plans in shaping the region’s future.

“The input received during the engagement process played a crucial role in shaping these documents, ensuring they reflect the aspirations and priorities of our community,” said Mayor Schmidt.

The Community Strategic Plan sets the long-term vision for the region, guiding future initiatives and decision-making to support sustainable growth and prosperity and outlines key priorities, including economic development, infrastructure investment, environmental sustainability, and community well-being.

The Destination Management Plan focuses on strategies to enhance tourism, attract visitors, and strengthen the local economy by leveraging the region’s unique history, culture, and natural assets. This plan includes initiatives to improve visitor experiences, support local businesses in the tourism sector, and promote Charters Towers as a must-visit destination.

“These plans are a direct result of collaboration with our community and we appreciate everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and ideas,” continued Mayor Schmidt.

Both of these plans form part of Council’s Integrated Planning, Performance and Reporting Framework and will guide Council moving forward, providing a strategic framework to create a stronger and more sustainable future for the region.

Both documents are now available to be viewed on Council’s website at www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/corporate-publications
