Charters Towers Regional Council has advised it will hold a Special Meeting to discuss an extended discount period for ratepayers.

The Special Meeting comes after feedback from ratepayers regarding the late arrival of rate notices in the mail.

The 2020/21 first half-yearly rates notices were mailed three weeks ago from an Australia Post mailing depot in South East Queensland. However there appears to be a delay of approximately two weeks in postal logistics and this may well relate to Australia Post COVID-19 service impacts.

Some local property owners received their rates notices as early as Friday, 2 October 2020. However, a few property owners have not yet received their rates notices.

Chief Executive Officer Aaron Johansson said “the upcoming Special Council Meeting will allow Council to discuss and decide on moving the prompt payment discount due date. The delay in the distribution of the rates notices is something out of both Council’s and the ratepayer’s hands, so we want to ensure we are doing what we can to ensure ratepayers receive the discount incentive.”

Council will advise residents of the outcome of the meeting via Facebook and website. Anyone with questions about their rates notice should call Council on 4761 5300.
