Development applications increase for October

More development applications were lodged with the Charters Towers Regional Council in October than the previous three months combined.

About $3.6 million worth of building works were lodged in the month compared to $3.3 million across July, August, and September.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said most of the increase was driven by residential developments.

“We saw a lot of interest from people wanting to build new homes or unit complexes in Charters Towers.

“It’s very exciting to see, and it shows there’s a lot of confidence in the economic future across the Charters Towers Region,” Mayor Beveridge said.

It comes off the back of approvals for several big projects which are set to bring significant economic benefits to the Region.

“The expansion of the Ravenswood Gold mine, and even the approval of the Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin, has boosted investor confidence locally,” he said.

“We expect that confidence to grow with the development of the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI) project at Greenvale; Copperstring 2.0; and the funding commitments from federal and state governments for Big Rocks Weir.

“Council has worked hard to get these job-creating projects over the line, and we’re continuing to look for more opportunities for the Charters Towers Region,” Mayor Beveridge said.
