Investor confidence continues to surge in Charters Towers

More than $5 million worth of development applications were lodged with the Charters Towers Regional Council for the October to December quarter 2020.

The figures came from Council’s latest Regional Development Quarterly Update and represents a 64 per cent increase over the July to September 2020 quarter.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said it showed there’s a lot of confidence in the economic future of the Charters Towers Region.

“There was a total of 43 development applications lodged over the three months from October to December,” he said.

“October saw the highest number of applications at 20, with nine for November and 14 for December.

“There’s a lot of potential in the Charters Towers Region and investors can see that,” Mayor Beveridge said.

It comes as several big region-changing projects were given approvals in the second half of 2020.

“The next stage of the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI) project, Copperstring 2.0, and funding commitments for Big Rocks Weir from state and federal governments were among some of the highlights,” Mayor Beveridge said.

“Resource companies like Ravenswood Gold and Minjar Gold also reconfirmed their commitment to the Region through expansion plans.”

The Regional Economic Development Update was tabled during Council’s General Meeting yesterday.
