Council makes a splash with Move It Programme
School is back and so is the Charters Towers Move It Programme.
The free after-school youth-based activity programme is designed to help children develop their skills and abilities while also promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
Sport and Recreation portfolio Councillor Kate Hastie said the programme will focus on swimming, fitness, and basketball in Term 1 2021.
“In Term 4 last year we saw a great turn out for touch football.
“This semester the children will stay cool at the pool every Monday and Thursday’s activities are held in an airconditioned hall with either basketball, fitness games or dancing,” she said.
Charters Towers Regional Council runs the program in partnership with the North Queensland Sports Foundation.
Cr Hastie said it is a great initiative for the Region’s youth.
“It allows our youth to get involved in organised sport at no cost to them or their families,” she said.
“Physical activity also provides numerous health benefits and I want to encourage our youth to take advantage of the programme and stay active,” Cr Hastie said.
More information on the Move It Programme, including a parental consent form, is available on Council’s website www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au
The Move It Programme is funded by Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) in partnership with North Queensland Sports Foundation.
