New tourism brand launches soon
The countdown is on until the launch of the Charters Towers Region’s own unique tourism brand.
The ‘Unearth Our Secrets’ event at The World Theatre on Thursday, 25 February will be the first opportunity for the community to see the new Charters Towers Tourism Destination Brand.
The idea came from a series of community consultation sessions held last year to look at ways to make the Region more competitive as a tourism destination.
Councillor Julie Mathews, who has portfolio responsibility for Tourism Economic Development, the Visitor Information Centre, and Tourist attractions, said the new branding is a vital tool to get more visitors to the Region.
“The objective is to entice more people to come here, and encourage them to stay more nights, and spend more money in the community,” she said.
“We’re famous for our heritage buildings and gold history, but there’s a lot more to see and do here that people outside of our Region wouldn’t know about.
“So we are asking travellers to come to the area, ‘unearth our secrets’ and share their experiences with their friends and family,” Cr Mathews said.
Close to 150 people attended one or more of the five tourism brand consultations sessions.
Council has also worked closely with local tourism operators to develop a destination brand which highlights our unique selling points.
Cr Mathews said this will give the local industry the right tools to effectively market our Region and compete with other tourism destinations.
“The new branding will be highly visible as we compete for a larger slice of the Australian tourism market.
“It will be on signage, at trade shows, in booklets, on clothing, social media, and promotional material to name a few,” Cr Mathews said.
