Locals are encouraged to get creative with arts funding

Charters Towers Region locals have just over two weeks to apply for Round 2 of the Regional Arts Development Fund.

Applications close Monday 29 March, and there’s more than $35,000 available to help fund art projects in the Region that have a community benefit.

Locals are being urged to think outside the box and apply for Round 2 of the Regional Arts Development Fund.

Councillor Graham Lohmann, whose portfolio includes Arts and Culture, said it’s an opportunity to consider and capitalise on new, even unlikely, partnerships between artistic and non-artistic groups.

“These grants can help fund events, festivals, paintings, murals, workshops, or even animating a public space or place.

“You don’t have to be an arts group or an artist to apply for the funding.”

Some excellent projects have come about from community groups engaging with arts and culture service providers.

For example, Charters Towers Restorers Club successfully received money from a previous round of the Regional Arts Development Fund to bring a pinstriping artist to Charters Towers.

The Club’s President, Clint Pianta said it was a project which benefitted many people in the community.

“Artist Tony Gray came up from Airlie Beach and not only held a pinstriping lesson with members of the Restorers Club but also put on a workshop for the community during the annual Motor Show and Swap Meet event.

“It was a great opportunity for the locals to experience a unique art form,” Mr Pianta said.

Any groups or individuals needing guidance on a potential project or help during the application process are encouraged to contact Council.

Application forms can be downloaded from the Charters Towers Regional Council website www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/radf.
