Council wants fresh faces for CBD

Council has called on more shop owners to take advantage of a program to revitalise building façades within the Charters Towers Central Business District.

The Façade Improvement Program is open to all businesses fronting Mosman or Gill Street, located within the Centre Zone outlined in the Charters Towers Regional Town Plan.

Through the program, Council will work with business owners and contribute up to $2,000 to revitalise the appearance of shop fronts.

Exquisite Beauty is one of seven local business to take advantage of the program.

Owner Jamie Thomas said it was a good incentive for her to get some work done.

“Through the program I applied to put up new signage and get some painting done,” she said.

“Customers have noticed the difference and it was a really simple process to apply for the funds.

“Not only has it freshened up the shop’s appearance, it’s also made it easier for customers to find where I am.

“We now need to see more businesses take advantage of the program to help further improve the appeal of Mosman and Gill Street to locals and visitors,” Mrs Thomas said.

Deputy Mayor Sonia Bennetto, whose portfolio includes Regional Economic Development, said the program also supports local tradespeople as the quotes for any works must be from local businesses.

“This helps ensure that our local tradies are getting the work and the money stays in the community,” she said.

An information pack, including façade treatment ideas and the application form, is available on Council’s website at www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au/business/facade-improvement-program.

The program is open until 30 June 2021.
