North Queensland based property development business Mendi Group has lodged an application to start stage one of a new housing development project in Charters Towers.

The proposed development, Grand Secret Estate, is located near the Charters Towers Showground and will initially see 17 new lots ranging from 5,000m² to 1.05 hectares in size released.

Further stages featuring smaller block sizes are anticipated.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said it continues to highlight developers’ confidence in the Charters Towers Region’s economy.

“Mendi Group is one of the North’s largest and most experienced property development and construction businesses,” he said.

“Their track record includes work on several large-scale property developments in North Queensland, as well as major projects like the North Queensland Stadium in Townsville, and multi-million-dollar civil engineering works for the Carmichael coal project in Central Queensland.

“To have businesses like Mendi Group see the potential in the Charters Towers Region is a huge vote of confidence for our economic future.

“There’s a lot to be positive about with projects like Big Rocks Weir in the pipeline, as well as the continued strong demand for cattle, a resurgence in mining, and increased interest in our tourism industry,” Cr Beveridge said.

Mendi Group Managing Director Jeff Doyle said it is an exciting and important step for the business.

“We are genuine about our intentions to deliver Charters Towers a premium residential development.

“The location and aspect of Grand Secret is one of a kind and we will use these site features to our best ability throughout the project.

“Construction of Stage 1 will employ up to 15 people, with more in future stages and to be able to inject some much-needed money into the local community will be fantastic.

“All staff at CTRC have been extremely accommodating and I thank Frank and his team for their proactive support with this application,” Mr Doyle said.
