Charters Towers Regional Council has finalised a new look 2021/2022 Charters Towers Holiday Guide and it has been mailed out to more than 100 Visitor Information Centres across the state.

The guide is the first publication to feature the new Charters Towers Destination Tourism Brand.

Councillor Julie Mathews, whose portfolio includes Tourism Economic Development, said it’s an important tool to further increase the Region’s tourism market.

“Charters Towers is a diverse and engaging destination for tourists,” she said.

“This guide features some amazing images taken across the Charters Towers Region and shines a light on some of our best kept tourism secrets.

“Anyone who picks up the guide will soon see that our Region offers it all, from one of Australia’s most unique gold rush stories, a rich military history spanning conflicts like the Boer War and both world wars, to some of Queensland’s best camping spots,” Cr Mathews said.

The guide gives an overview of what there is to see and do in the Charters Towers Region.

Deputy Mayor Sonia Bennetto, whose portfolio includes Regional Economic Development, said tourists will spend on average $186 a day per person for overnight stays.

“They spend that money in local hotels, restaurants, shops, and with tourism operators,” she said.

“Council has a clear strategy on how we will grow the Charters Towers Region’s tourism industry.

“We’ve already made the Tourism Destination Management Plan available to the community, launched the new Destination Tourism Brand, and have now updated and distributed a new Holiday Guide.

“These guides will be made available at Visitor Information Centres across Queensland and also at tourism trade shows and other events,” Cr Bennetto said.

Copies of the guide are available at the Charters Towers Visitor Information Centre or online at visitcharterstowers.com.au.
