Vandalism must stop

Council is calling on those people engaging in acts of vandalism around our Region to stop.Second photo of vandalism at Weir Park

This morning Council discovered damage to Weir Park’s lawn area while carrying out scheduled maintenance works.

Deep, rutted tyre tracks had been left on the grass area at the park from a vehicle that was hooning.

It will cost a significant amount of time, resources, and money for Council to repair the damage.

It will also lead to potential delays in some scheduled maintenance work elsewhere in the Region because resources will need to be diverted to fix the damage to Weir Park’s lawn area.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident of vandalism.

Council regularly has to fix damage to the toilet blocks at Lissner Park and Defiance Mill Park.

Our people have reported multiple occasions where washbasins have been broken, toilets smashed, and the inside of the toilet blocks have been fire damaged.

These senseless acts of vandalism represent a cost to Council and the community in both time and money.

It also places a drain on resources and delays other maintenance work.

I am calling on those engaging in these acts to stop and I encourage anyone in the community who witnesses any acts of vandalism to contact Policelink on 131 444.
