Dog registrations renewal notices posted

Charters Towers Regional Council has urged locals to be responsible dog owners and register their pets.

Registration renewal notices are due to reach letter boxes around the Region shortly and owners are encouraged to renew before the discount period ends.

The registration period runs from 1 July to 30 June each year, with renewal due by 31 July.

Councillor Bernie Robertson, whose portfolio includes Animal Management, said registration is compulsory for dogs over the age of 12 weeks.

“Council is aware of the important role animals play in our community by providing comfort and companionship,” he said.

“Part of being a responsible dog owner is registering them with Council.

“This not only makes them easier to identify if they’re collected by one of our Rangers but also helps Council plan for any future community needs like dog parks or off-leash areas,” Cr Robertson said.

Council is also partnering with RSPCA and Charters Towers Veterinary Service for Operation Wanted.

The annual desexing campaign gives pet owners a 20 per cent discount for desexing their cat or dog by registering through operationwanted.com.au.

The campaign runs until 31 August 2021.
