More than $40,000 worth of art projects will be funded across the Charters Towers Region.

Council endorsed the approval of six applications for round two of the 2020-2021 Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) at May’s General Meeting.

The money will go towards art exhibitions, pottery projects, craft workshops, restoration of a historical mining model, and more.

Councillor Graham Lohmann, whose portfolio includes Arts and Culture, said RADF is a great initiative for the arts in our Region.

“Each year Council partners with the Queensland Government to support local arts and culture through this fund,” he said.

“Since 2017 this program has helped to support more than $170,000 in art projects for the Charters Towers Region.

“Some of those projects include music festivals, murals, woodworking workshops, literature festivals, dance and music workshops, and more.

“RADF promotes the role and value of arts, culture, and heritage as key drivers of diverse and inclusive communities.”

Cr Lohmann said the RADF committee was delighted with the interest in round two.

“We received a strong number of applications for the latest RADF round,” he said.

“We had some tough decisions to make.

“We encourage those who may have missed out this time, and anyone else with an arts project idea to apply for the round later this year.

“The priority for this round will be the Charters Towers 150 Years Celebrations in 2022,” Cr Lohmann said.

RADF is a partnership between the Charters Towers Regional Council and the Queensland Government to help support local arts and culture in the region.
