Charters Towers Regional Council will look to adopt its new Operational Plan for the 2021-2022 financial year at next week’s General Meeting of Council on Wednesday, 16 June 2021.

The Operational Plan links the Council's strategic directions, which are set out in the recently adopted five-year Corporate Plan, to projects, initiatives, and ongoing activities to be delivered within the new financial year.

The plan is comprised of several key deliverables and measures which Council is committed to delivering in conjunction with the development of Council’s annual budget.

Council is then required to report quarterly on the progress of all operational activities to ensure financial responsibility and the sustainability of the Region and community assets.

Acting Mayor Sonia Bennetto said Council is required to adopt a new Operational Plan each year.

“Under the Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulation 2012, Council is required to prepare and adopt an operational plan for each financial year.

“The Operational Plan is a one-year plan that details the operations of Council to deliver its services to the community, the Corporate Plan, Council’s election commitments, and funding requirements.

“The Operational Plan must state how we are implementing the priorities of Council’s five-year Corporate Plan which include the community-focused areas of Economic Prosperity, Environmental Sustainability, Social Cohesion, and Culture and Heritage.

“There’s also organisational focus on areas like Transparency and Accountability, Governance and Structures, Assets and Infrastructure, Customer Service, a ‘People First’ approach, and Innovation and Transformation,” Cr Bennetto said.

If endorsed the Operational Plan will be made available on Council’s website www.charterstowers.qld.gov.au within the coming days.
