Dog registrations due by the end of the month

Charters Towers Region dog owners have just over a month to claim a discount on pet registrations.

Council has put out a reminder to owners to ensure their dogs are registered before the 31 July deadline.

Councillor Bernie Robertson, whose portfolio includes Animal Management, said Council is impressed with the response so far.

“We have been spreading the message to pet owners online, on radio, in print, and in their mailboxes.

“We want to ensure the message gets out to the Region's dog owners that renewals are due now

"They can claim a discount if they register before the end of this month,” he said.

Cr Robertson said registration is compulsory for any dog over the age of 12 weeks old.

“Animals play an important in our community by providing comfort and companionship.

“However, if you own a dog you must be a responsible dog owner and that means registering them with Council.

“This will help our Rangers to identify dogs if they are collected.

"It will also help Council plan for any future community needs like dog parks or off-leash areas,” Cr Robertson said.
