Acclaimed musician coming back to where it all started

What started as borrowing a clarinet while at a Charters Towers primary school has turned into a career as one of Australia’s finest young chamber musicians.

Lloyd Van’t Hoff first picked up the wind instrument while at Millchester State School and has never looked back.

“I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for my time in Charters Towers,” Mr Van’t Hoff said.

Today he has done everything from performing at international music events and the Sydney Opera House to collaborating with musicians like Paul Kelly and founding Australia’s leading young wind ensemble Arcadia Winds.

He is one of the talented musicians who will be performing as part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music concert in Charters Towers on Saturday, 17 July.

Mr Van’t Hoff said he is excited to be returning to the community where it all started.

“It is one of the regional events I am looking forward to the most,” he said.

“I still remember getting on stage at The World Theatre when I was 12 years old and performing at eisteddfods.

“It will be special to step back on the stage but this time as a professional,” Mr Van’t Hoff said.

The Australian Festival of Chamber Music concert in Charters Towers will also include performances from the Lyrebird Duo and Jennifer Yu.
