Seed Library to flourish in the Towers
The Excelsior Library has sowed the seeds for a new Seed Library in Charters Towers.
The Seed Library launched last Friday and is a place for the community to share and trade seeds that have been harvested in the Region.
Councillor Graham Lohmann, whose portfolio includes Community Facilities, said it’s a great opportunity for residents.
“While the Seed Library is a great way to involve community members who are already passionate about gardening, it is even better opportunity for aspiring gardeners,” he said.
“Not only will seeds be shared around, but the Seed Library will support information sharing and preservation.
“It’s very exciting. It may start off as something small, but it will grow into something very popular.
“Not only is it perfect for experienced and novice green thumbs, but it is also a great way of engaging kids in something other than devices,” Cr Lohmann said.
The Seed Library currently consists of a selection of seeds which have been harvested here in Charters Towers, including ones that are native to the Region.
The staff at the Excelsior Library are eager to see the Seed Library blossom into a successful initiative.
