Mayor’s Message – Mayor Frank Beveridge – Remembrance Day 2021
Today we will once again come together on Remembrance Day, the day we commemorate the end of the First World War.
More than 1,500 Charters Towers born men and women were enlisted for service in World War One.
The sacrifice of those men and women is not lost on locals and we have the chance to remember those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts with a minute’s silence at 11am.
The Service will commence at the Cenotaph in Gill Street at 10.40am this morning. It is requested that all attending follow COVID-19 regulations to ensure the safety of all members of the public attending.
The Charters Towers RSL will be open following the Service for cold refreshments.
It will be an honour to lay a wreath and stand with the community as we pay our respects.
I want to encourage the community to attend the commemoration service. Lest we forget.
