Celebrating Faces & Places of Charters Towers

Back

Queensland Day is a celebration of Queensland’s birthday and, as part of this year’s 150 year celebrations, a Street Party is planned which will be a true community celebration.

Queensland Day was chosen as a perfect opportunity to celebrate the unique culture, heritage and aspiration of our regional community and Queensland, and this entertaining event will be funded as part of the 2022 Queensland Day Sponsorship program.

Activities planned as part of this event include food and entertainment, artisan markets, workshops, exhibitions and photography competition.

Cr Julie Mathews, whose portfolio includes Tourism Economic Development, said that the event is a great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to reflect on our history.

“As a celebration that encourages Queenslanders to reflect on Queensland’s history, Queensland Day is a perfect event to incorporate into our 150 celebrations.

“Council hopes this event encourages the sharing of unique stories about the people and places that have shaped our Region into what you see today.

“I want to encourage everyone to attend what is sure to be a fantastic event and urge our very talented artists and photographers to enter their work in the150 Years: Faces & Places of Charters Towers Exhibition and the ‘Unearth Our Secrets’ Photography Competition.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase your talents, so whether you’re experienced or just a beginner, it will be great to see a large variety of work from our community,” said Cr Mathews

The Queensland Day – Celebrating Faces & Places of Charters Towers Street Party will take place on Mosman Street, between Gill and Marion Streets, from 3pm to 8pm on Sunday, 5 June 2022.

Entries for the Exhibition and Photography Competition will be free to the community to view as part of the Street Party.
