Council to produce documentary film about the community
Charters Towers Regional Council has announced it will be producing a documentary about the people of Charters Towers as part of the 150-year celebrations.
As part of the film, Council is calling on residents to grab their cameras and film themselves to capture the lives of people in 2022.
The hour-long film, titled ‘Our World’, will include interviews of prominent residents and the stories made by the community.
Councillor Sonia Bennetto, whose portfolio includes communities, said this is an exciting project for the community to be involved in.
“It will be a film about the community of Charters Towers, made by the people of Charters Towers. We’re calling on residents to grab their phones, iPads, DSLRs, action cameras - whatever recording device they have - and film themselves.
“We will then take the footage and make a unique film about who we are in 2022. It will be a kind of a ‘day in the life’ film about us”, Cr Bennetto said.
Community members are encouraged to capture their day-to-day life and share their thoughts and feelings.
Council will be holding an information night, followed by a short filmmaking workshop, for the community on Monday, 18 July 2022 at 5:30pm.
“This is a great opportunity to show off the Towers and to share our story with the rest of the world.
“We’re hoping this film will be a snapshot of history that can be looked back on in another 150 years,” said Cr Bennetto.
The ‘Our World’ film will be produced locally and will screen at the Twilight Markets and Film Festival on 30 September 2022.
