Towers Rush is back bigger and better than ever

This year’s Towers Rush event is planned to be bigger and better than ever.

As part of the Region’s 150 Celebrations, Towers Rush will form part of an entire weekend of fun over the October long weekend.

This year, Towers Rush will be incorporated into the weekend long Rush Festival, which will feature live music by some of Australia’s favourite musicians, including Ross Wilson, Dragon, Kate Ceberano, Busby Marou and Russell Morris.

The 8th Towers Rush will see teams of 2 – 5 people racing between checkpoints to complete challenges to gain points, using an app to log their arrival at checkpoints.

Councillor Kate Hastie said the annual event is designed to get people of all ages and fitness levels rushing around and having fun while being active.

“Participants can choose the category they enter, determining how they wish to navigate the course (via car, bike or on foot), as well as which challenges they complete.

“This event certainly lives up to it’s tag line and turns Charters Towers into one big active playground,” said Cr Hastie.

Teams are provided with a map and a clue sheet, with four hours to race to as many checkpoints and complete as many challenges as they can within that time frame.

Past years challenges have included activities such as abseiling from heritage buildings, constructing food masterpieces, paddling the mighty Burdekin River, completing puzzles and much more.

Whilst it’s not all about winning, and more about having fun and enjoying the outdoors, at the end of the challenge, points are tallied to create a leader board of teams.

“Once teams have finished competing, the addition of live music and free kid’s entertainment after the mornings activities will make it a fantastic event for all.

“From the young, to the young at heart, those who enjoy action packed fun, to those who enjoy something a little more sedate, the weekend is sure to be an event not to be missed,” Cr Hastie said.

Towers Rush registration is $40 per team, and teams can enter the following categories:

•   Car
