Rush Festival Wrap-up

The Charters Towers Region has officially celebrated its 150th anniversary since the declaration of the gold rush with Council hosting the Rush Festival over the weekend.

Hundreds turned out to the various events held over the weekend to mark the occasion.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said there were plenty of opportunities for people to get involved.

“It was great to see the community, particularly a lot of our families come out and enjoy the street parade, Twilight Markets and ‘Our World’ documentary screening on Friday night.”

“The music festival with Dragon, Kate Ceberano, Russell Morris, Busby Marou and Ross Wilson was especially popular with fans.”

“And once again our annual Towers Rush amazing-race style treasure hunt event, which is in its seventh year, proved to be incredibly fun.  A highlight this year was the arrival of Townsville Road Runners, who ran from Townsville in a relay that morning, to deliver a message from our neighbouring council Townsville, as they did 50 years ago to celebrate our 100th birthday.”

“An event like this doesn’t happen overnight, and I am proud that as a Council we were able to provide a new event that catered to all demographics in our community, especially given the challenges we’ve faced with planning over the past two years.”

The Rush Festival was the crescendo event, following a program of celebrations earlier in the year including the Queensland Day Celebrating Faces and Places event; local photography competition; Murder on Mosman Film production; and commemorative calendar.
