It's time to Light up our World

It’s about to get a lot brighter in Charters Towers with the Christmas Colouring In and Christmas Lights Competitions both opening today.

It’s time for the kids to break open the colouring in pencils and the adults to bring out the Christmas lights and decorations for the annual competitions.

The Christmas Colouring In Competition is a free competition offering three categories for children aged 12 years and under and Council is encouraging parents to get their children involved.

Councillor Graham Lohmann said Christmas is all about children and colouring in is a way to keep them entertained and excited about Christmas.

“There are great prizes again this year, including a lucky draw prize, and all entries will be on display at the Excelsior Library from Thursday, 15 December to Thursday, 22 December 2022,” said Councillor Lohmann.

Entry Forms will be available from Council’s website or hard copies can be picked up from Council’s Administration Centre and the Excelsior Library.

Nomination into the Christmas Lights Competition is free, through Council’s website and the nominated addresses will be featured on the Christmas Light Trail Map and shared with the public.

“For the adults, it’s all about who can put on the best lights display and residents are encouraged to decorate their homes or businesses to embrace the Christmas spirit.

“Why not join with your neighbours to bring some sparkle and joy to your own street,” continued Councillor Lohmann.

The Christmas Lights Competition has various categories that you can enter, including Best House, Best Nativity and Best Street.

Charters Towers Chamber of Commerce & Mines Inc are once again supporting this initiative, with Best Business Display, and Best Community & Not-For Profit Display.

Entries for both competitions close at 4pm on Friday, 9 December 2022, with winners announced at the 2022 Christmas Fair on Thursday, 15 December 2022.
