Apprentices and trainees start their career journey
Last week saw three apprentices, and two trainees commence work with Council as part of the Skilling Queenslanders First Start Program.
The recent intake of apprentices and trainees will see our new recruits work in library services, open spaces, facilities and fleet services to gain a nationally recognised qualification and paid employment.
The First Start program is subsidised by the Queensland Government and is designed to provide education and employment opportunities.
Mayor Frank Beveridge said the Program is a great initiative for Council to be involved with.
“The funding supports roles that provide the opportunity for those looking to either start or change their career path with the perfect avenue to gain or improve the skills and knowledge they require,” said Mayor Beveridge.
The Program provides job opportunities, encourages people to enter skill-based training, keeps locals earning and learning, and helps create a pool of skilled workers.
Each year Council puts the call out for applicants for apprenticeships and traineeships, with this year’s positions including Apprentice Diesel Fitter, Apprentice Carpenter, Apprentice Plumber, Horticulture Trainee, and Library Trainee.
“The success of this Program is certainly evident, with some of Council’s previous apprentices and trainees continuing their careers with Council,” continued Mayor Beveridge.
Council looks forward to seeing our newest recruits grow in confidence and their knowledge as they move through their training and we wish them all the best for their career journey.
