Water Park ready to open to community
The date for the Charters Towers Water Park Grand Opening has been set.
The Water Park will be officially opened on Saturday, 18 February 2023 and the community is invited to help celebrate the occasion and join in the fun, with entry available via Water Street.
Along with the official unveiling of a plaque, the morning’s activities, which are set to occur from 9:30am – 11:30am, will include something for everyone, with free snow cones, popcorn, coffee, cupcakes, and sausage sizzle on offer.
Councillor Kate Hastie said Council is proud to be officially opening the Charters Towers Water Park as a significant local and regional attraction which will hopefully be enjoyed for generations to come.
“It has been exciting watching the space come together and everyone has been watching intently, waiting for the day everything was complete,” said Cr Hastie.
Despite various delays, which included removal of unsuitable material and contaminated soil, inclement weather, and labour and material shortages, the completion of this project has ultimately gone to plan.
The facility incorporates a water splash pad which features a tipping bucket, water slides, and various water jets and spray hoops, all under cover of giant shade sails.
Also included in the space are picnic shelters, barbeques, an amenities block, pathways, lighting, and landscaping, all contained within a fenced area.
“To say the finished facility looks absolutely fantastic is not an understatement and I am really excited to see the community come together to celebrate it’s opening.
“The space will no doubt prove popular with families, both locals and visitors, to utilise and keep children entertained and cool during the warmer months,” continued Cr Hastie.
Queensland’s Assistant Minister for Local Government Nikki Boyd said the Palaszczuk Government was making Queensland’s great lifestyle even better.
“There’s a lot to love about regional Queensland, and the community in Charters Towers boasts one of the best lifestyles in Queensland.
“By investing in the new Water Park we’re making that lifestyle even better, building a facility which will bring families and the community together.
“It’s also going to make a splash with tourists, who will support local businesses and jobs when they visit,” Ms Boyd said.
The Charters Towers Water project was jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government. Australian Government funding of $1.4 million was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
Federal Member for Kennedy, Hon. Bob Katter has been invited to attend the Grand Opening to help officially open the facility in recognition of the funding provided by the Australian Government.
Mr Katter congratulated the Charters Towers Regional Council on a fantastic project and said he looks forward to seeing locals and visitors enjoying the new attraction.
"I belong to a political party that is about 'fun and freedom', so we love councils that put effort into the fun and freedom for their communities and build projects such as this park," said Mr Katter.
