Pet Owners Must Take Immediate Action to Update their Details!

Back

Residents are being urged to ensure that the information about their pets is accurate and up-to-date.

Renewal notices for animal registrations are scheduled to be sent out later this month.

Councillor Bernie Robertson, whose portfolio includes Animal Management, said having the correct details in Council’s database can help Council's Rangers to efficiently reunite escaped animals with their owners.

“It is your responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of your animals," he said.

The fees collected from registrations help to offset the cost of animal management in the Charters Towers Region.  These costs include maintaining the pound, facilitating the return or rehoming of pets, educating pet owners, and enforcing local laws relating to dog attacks, barking, and stray dogs.

Council also encourages responsible pet ownership and offers a reduced registration fee for owners choosing to have their animals desexed.

“Owners who fail to register and microchip their animals may face significant penalties, as both registration and microchipping are mandatory for dogs aged 12 weeks and above,” Cr Robertson said.

Owners who recognise the importance of registering and microchipping their animals ensure their beloved companions' safety.
