Council is asking for the community’s help!
An E-Petition has been posted to the Queensland Parliament’s website requesting the House to do all within its power to construct a new hospital in Charters Towers.
The E-Petition is available for all Queensland residents to sign and Council is encouraging the community to sign the petition and share the information with family, friends, work colleagues, and personal networks.
Mayor Frank Beveridge said the community’s health and well-being should be our utmost priority, and a new hospital in Charters Towers is a crucial step towards ensuring a brighter and healthier future for our region.
“Our current healthcare infrastructure is struggling to keep up, and it's time for action.
“I implore those making the decisions to allocate the necessary resources and funding to make this vital project a reality,” said Mayor Beveridge.
A Call to Action Public Forum was held in Charters Towers earlier this month where representatives from Council, Queensland Health, Members of Parliament, a local General Practitioner and members of the public shared significant concerns regarding the inadequacy of the health services currently provided by the Charters Towers Hospital.
They shed light on the benefits a new hospital would bring to the Region, emphasising the potential for enhanced patient care, reduced waiting times, expanded emergency services, and advanced medical technologies.
“I encourage the community to sign the petition and share the information to assist Council with its Advocacy for this priority project.
“As well as the obvious benefits to the medical services provided, the economic impact a new hospital would have on the local community, including job creation and increased investment opportunities, would be significant.
Hard copies of the petition are also available to sign at Council's Administration Centre, Excelsior Library, and Visitor Information Centre.
Any organisation or business that would like copies of the blank petition so that you can obtain signatures can collect hard copies from Council’s Administration Centre at 12 Mosman Street, Charters Towers.
The link to the E-Petition can be found on Council’s Have Your Say Portal (haveyoursay.charterstowers.qld.gov.au), with the petition closing on Sunday, 20 August 2023.
