Charters Towers Regional Council adopted the 2023-24 Budget at its Statutory Budget Meeting held today. 

The comprehensive budget includes strategic funding allocations for major projects aimed at fostering development and enhancing the region's infrastructure. 

Mayor Frank Beveridge said “With a strong focus on growth and progress, the budget sets the stage for a vibrant future for our region. 

“The 2023-24 budget is a demonstration of Council’s commitment to driving growth, prosperity, and resilience within the Charters Towers Region.  

“We have carefully crafted this budget to address the diverse needs of our community, and believe it reflects Council’s vision for a vibrant and sustainable future,” said Mayor Beveridge. 

Key highlights of the budget include a number of fully funded initiatives: 

  • Phase 1 Redevelopment Commencement – Kennedy Regiment Memorial Pool – $1.50m              
  • Charters Towers Cemetery – Repairs to Rotunda – $0.06m 
  • Infrastructure Operations – 2023-24 – R2R Program – $2.28m 
  • Roads Of Strategic Importance Program (ROSI) – Myola Road – $1.52m      

In addition to the allocated funding initiatives, several major projects are planned for the 2023-24 financial year which aim to drive progress and meet the evolving needs of the community.  

Key projects include: 

  • Disaster Management – Local Disaster Coordination Centre Completion & Fit Out – $1.10m 
  • Building Our Regions (BOR) Round 6 – Water Reticulation Network Upgrades – $2.40m 
  • Infrastructure Operations – 2023-24 TIDS Program – Dotswood & Myola Road – $1.61m 
  • Charters Towers Airport Improvements – $0.17m 
  • Greenvale Water Supply Network – $0.58m 
  • Charters Towers Water Supply Network – Rising Main & Reservoir Infrastructure – $0.70m 

“The Budget also accounts for several other crucial items, including funding for flying fox management, the CBD Masterplan & Transport Strategy, waste management master planning, Library computer upgrades, waste disposal facility site improvements, and Greenvale township works.  

“This budget reflects our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our residents and promoting the overall prosperity of Charters Towers," continued Mayor Beveridge.
