LDMG moves to ‘stand down’

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has moved to stand down today in response to Ex-TC Kirrily

The Charters Towers Local Disaster Management Group has moved to stand down following Ex-TC Kirrily.

The stand down includes the closure of the disaster centre that was activated this morning to assist in the coordination of activities for responding agencies.

Mayor Frank Beveridge, Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group praised the efforts of the community who were well prepared and followed alerts issued ahead and during the event.  

“The team at QFES (Queensland Fire and Emergency Services) and Statement Emergency Service (SES) did a remarkable job in preparing our community.

To all agencies, utilities, volunteers, community members and staff who helped during this event, I thank you for your selflessness,” Mayor Beveridge said.

“While there is limited damage identified to our region at this time, community members are asked to avoid unnecessary travel and be aware of damage caused by the cyclone, including fallen powerlines and a strong reminder, if it’s flooded, forget it,” said Mayor Beveridge.  

Mayor Beveridge has passed on his thoughts and support for our neighbouring local governments who sustained the brunt of the impacts from the cyclone.

“To the Charters Towers region, you can now relax and enjoy this Australia Day with family and friends,” Mayor Beveridge said.
